Visit the Gulf Coast Exploreum Mobile AL
The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center is not only an amazing Mobile attraction, but the cornerstone of learning for southern Alabama. The center contains over 150 interactive exhibits and IMAX theatre. The center provides an effortless, educational experience whether it’s a family outing or a group event.
The history of The Gulf Coast Exploreum begins in Mobile in 1976 when the Junior League of Mobile recognized the need for an educational program for children. Construction began on Spring Avenue Road donated by the A.S. Mitchell Foundation. No one ever dreamed that it would become the huge success it is today. The community soon began to get behind the program with volunteer help and massive donations. In 1987, the center was moved to its current home on Government Street. Eleven years of planning and fundraising provided an amazing Grande Opening for the center in 1998. The facility boasts a very unique architecture with a modern twist on historical layout of the town.
There are three permanent galleries in the center and they have seasonal exhibits that rotate throughout the year. You can visit the Hands on Hall, the Wharf of Wonder, or Body Works. There are live demonstrations in the Chem Lab, Bio Lab, or the IMAX Dome Theatre. You can be your own T.V. star on the WKRG mock T.V. Studio, play the laser harp, be a digital D.J., have fun with electromagnets, go on a shrimp expedition, learn what germs look like, and many more. This is the center that is fun for all ages and appeals to everyone’s curious scientific side. If you or your family is looking for an amazing learning experience while having a fun time, you must visit the Gulf Coast Exploreum Mobile AL.
