Visit the Fairhope AL Fishing Pier
The Fairhope AL fishing pier is not only a local landmark and popular local fishing spot but also the perfect spot for a long stroll. Known as the ‘Big Pier’, the quarter-mile long pier is located at the west end of Fairhope Avenue where the city’s original commercial pier was built in 1894. The current pier was reconstructed in 2006 after being destroyed in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina. The pier features benches, covered areas, restrooms, a marina and a restaurant. There is no charge for walking the pier but a saltwater license is required to fish from the pier.
There are several other attractions surrounding the pier that are the perfect complement to a picturesque afternoon outing or mid-day pick-nick. There is an award winning rose garden, complete with a water fountain, a tree trail that winds around the duck pond, covered pavilions and a sandy beach area. Taking time out to visit the Fairhope pier and it’s surrounding attractions will certainly make an enjoyable day complete.
Annual events such as the Fourth of July fireworks show put on by the City of Fairhope, Coastal Clean-Up Day, Jubilee Kids Triathlon, and Grandman Triathlon are just a few of several events that take place from the Fairhope Pier Park. If you are visiting Fairhope, make sure you walk on down the hill to the pier. Give yourself a little extra time to stop and smell the roses, feed the ducks, and watch the most amazing sunset you will ever see.
