Mobile is the third most populous city in Alabama, and sits on the central Gulf Coast and Mobile River. The city received its name from the Native American Mobilian tribe; Mobile was the first capital of colonial French Louisiana, and received this distinguished title in 1702. Currently, Mobile is the ninth largest port in the United States.
