Mobile Alabama Information

Mobile is the third most populous city in Alabama, and sits on the central Gulf Coast and Mobile River. The city is home to both American South and Creole culture, as it is the biggest municipality on the Gulf Coast between New Orleans, Louisiana and St. Petersburg, Florida, both of which are attractive vacation destinations.

The city received its name from the Native American Mobilian tribe; Mobile was the first capital of colonial French Louisiana, and received this distinguished title in 1702. Mobile is also the only seaport in the state of Alabama, and has long played a major role in the city’s economic development, as it was a popular port of trade between the Native Americans and the French. Currently, Mobile is the ninth largest port in the United States.
