History of Point Clear Alabama
Point Clear is a census-designated place situated in the state of Alabama, the Baldwin County. Point Clear is included in the Daphne-Fairhope metro area. It is a small town, covering an area of 5.5 sq mi and having a population of 2,125 inhabitants. In the 1800s, Point Clear Alabama used to be a popular holiday destination for wealthy families coming from all over the country. Tourists were mainly from New Orleans and Mobile and they would come to Point Clear in the summer. When the yellow fever arrived, the residents of the town believed that the disease won’t affect them because of the good air coming from Mobile Bay. Obviously, they were wrong.
Visitors used to come to Point Clear by ferry boat. They would stop at Zundel’s Wharf. That’s why all the homes and the cottages face Mobile Bay. Additionally, homes and the water had a boardwalk in between. This was leading to Zundel’s Wharf. In 2005, before Hurricane Katrina, the old pier and its remnants were still visible. The town recovered after the disastrous hurricane and nowadays it’s a lively place where people can spend their vacations with their loved ones. This small town features numerous vacation homes located along Mobile Bay and it also has the famous Grand Hotel Resort. Despite their size, Mobile Bay and Point Clear have a lot of things to offer to their tourists. Mobile Bay, for example, features activities and places such as historic homes, a Second World War battleship, a cruise terminal for the ships from the western Caribbean, museums, sand beaches that are perfect for sunbathing and swimming and 21 golf courses. Additionally, the area comprises beautiful parks.

Tourists can visit Magnolia Springs located close to Point Clear, in Foley. This is actually a valley that features numerous oak trees. The campsites situated in the park have all modern amenities: shower facilities, cable TV and wireless Internet access. There is also a golf course behind the park. Foley also features a resort called Anchors Aweigh. All campsites have free Wi-Fi, free cable TV, full hookups, picnic tables, patios and landscaping. Visitors will also have full access to planned weekly activities, restrooms with showers, playgrounds, the swimming pool, outdoor games, a recreation center and a hot tub.
Those who don’t want to travel around Point Clear can choose to stay at the Grand Hotel. The Marriott resort was constructed in the 1840s. It has 405 rooms and it used to be the main accommodation place for wealthy families in the 1800s. The Grand Hotel has endured hurricanes, floods and fires, but it’s still a primary attraction for tourists. During the 2000s, the hotel was upgraded and changed. It now features a large spa, renovated gulf courses, various restaurants and a public garden with gorgeous trees and plants. After Hurricane Katrina, the Grand Hotel was closed and reopened in November 2006. Overall, Point Clear can be an excellent place to reside and start a family. The area is safe, it features beautiful greenery, and it has plenty of entertainment facilities for kids.
