The original State Park Pier was destroyed by hurricane Ivan in 2004. The new pier was built away from the original site and the remaining pieces of the old pier were removed and placed by the new site to create a reef to enhance marine life for fishing. The new pier also has many features that the old pier did not including indoor seating for the concession area, indoor retail area for tackle equipment and souvenirs, comfort stations at midpoint, wheelchair accessible rail fishing, and 2,448 feet of fishing space available along the rails. You can also purchase your salt water fishing license right at the pier.

So whether you are fisherman looking for the next big thrill or just looking for an amazing view of the emerald green gulf coastal waters, you need to add the Gulf Shores State Park Pier to you must see list. There is nothing like watching the sunset from the Gulf State Park Pier, which stands over 20 feet above the Gulf of Mexico in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
