Fairhope United Methodist Church (FUMC) in the heart of Downtown Fairhope, AL just feels like coming home. It was a seamless transition when my little family was adopted by the larger FUMC family just two years ago.
Growing up in the church I learned that many of our needs can be met where the brick walls and warm embraces offer sanctuary. Those needs have changed for me over the years and even in the darkest times my church family always offered companionship. At FUMC my newly transplanted family immediately felt that familiar love and support and we now aim to extend that gift to others.

In addition to weekly Sunday school and church services, my family always looks forward to enjoying a delicious home cooked meal and encouraging conversation at Wednesday night supper. We stick around for the activities offered after supper, ranging from adult bible studies to children’s gym time. My daughters are overjoyed by the opportunity to sing for an audience in the children’s choirs and my oldest daughter acolytes, just like I did as a child. My husband even dusted off his cleats and played catcher on FUMC’s softball team! We have enjoyed participating in Vacation Bible School, Upward basketball and cheerleading, SWIFT, PIER, Created by God, Wingmen, LIFT, and the FUMC Christmas float. (Fortunately I found early on that the FUMC website is very helpful at explaining all of these programs in detail!)
I cannot wrap this up without noting the thing I love most – in Fairhope United Methodist Church I find rest. It is relaxing for me to join my friends to watch our children play basketball or read their bibles together. I have truly formed lasting bonds with my dear friends of all ages at FUMC. As CS Lewis reminded us in his Screw-tape Letters, when believers form a unified body there is little the enemy can do against them. I love this church because the unified body of believers feels like coming home
