“After living in many different countries and traveling all over the world, The Seller and his wife ultimately settled on Fairhope when it came time to retire from the insurance industry in 1985.  They were attracted to the area in large part due to the beautiful weather, friendly people and low taxes.  The couple had also spent the bulk of their married life living in big cities all over the world, so when it came time to hang up their frequent flyer wings, they decided that small town life was a more ideal pace for their retirement years.

Cliff Pittman, a local builder, began construction on the house in 1995.  It was completed in 1998 at a final cost of $3,000,000, which did not include the price of the 2 acres overlooking the most coveted golf course on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay.  The Seller’s wife learned of Kenny McClain’s plans to sell the two secluded lots at her weekly bridge game. They drove out to the property the next day and fell in love with the privacy, the high elevation and the fact that no other homes could be built around them.
The house has a steel skeleton under concrete and plaster, with not one single inch of drywall used in the construction of the home. The inspirational home’s unique style and floor plan was derived from the time that the Sellers spent living in Thailand. The centralized square footage of the main living level was specifically designed for entertaining large parties.  The couple hosted several special occasion gatherings for upwards of 125 people.  The foyer was built as a replica of an old steamboat, with its spiral brass staircase railing.
In addition to the kitchen, great room, two gas fireplaces and wet bar on the main living level, you will also find a  guest bedroom, as well as a private In-law/caretaker quarters or 4th bedroom located just before the door access to the 4-car garage.  The master suite, on the second level boasts his and her private master bathrooms – 1 with a Jacuzzi tub and 1 with a steam sauna! Also on this level is an additional guest bedroom suite currently being used as an office. The third living level offers a large, open recreation room with wet bar, gas fireplace and balcony overlooking the golf course.  There is also a storage basement and an elevator that will take you to all 4 levels of the home.
The Sellers feel that such a large home has become too much for them to manage.  They are ready to downsize to a much smaller residence, but have no plans of ever leaving Fairhope.  He still plays golf twice a week and they love being able to drive their street legal golf cart throughout the Lakewood amenity areas, as well as to Downtown Fairhope.”
