For further insight into the interesting details of this custom home, I asked the sellers for a personal interview.  Please avail yourself to their unedited remarks, revealing the property from a very personal perspective:

Jason:   How did you know this was the home you were meant to buy?
Seller:  “We fell in love with the neighborhood because it was not the typical “cookie cutter” homes.  All the custom homes are built on large lots that give you room to roam and privacy. Also, we knew when we opened the beautiful glass mahogany front door into the open living room that this is where we wanted to raise our growing family.”

Jason:  Were schools a factor in your decision to purchase this home?
Seller:  Schools were a huge determining factor on where we were going to call home.  At the time, my oldest was in pre-school so it was important to live in a good district.  J. Larry Newton has lower student/teacher ratio, excellent academic scores and an outstanding parent involvement community. My children have attended Newton for the past seven years and we all have grown to love the Newton family.”

Jason:  What have become your top 5-10 favorite features of the home?
Seller:  1)Outdoor kitchen watching TV and grilling  2)Cooking in the kitchen with granite counter tops and gas stove  3)Spa like bathroom with jetted tub and glass door and tile shower  4)Open living room with gas starting wood burning fireplace  5)Front porch swings watching kids play on big front yard  6)Quiet neighborhood  7)Spacious bedrooms  8)No carpet  9)Outdoor living spaces  10)Location

Jason:  Where do you find yourself spending the most time in the home and why?

Seller:  “Wife’s point of view: I have two favorite places.  One being the sitting room off of the kitchen that overlooks the backyard.  This is the place where I have my coffee in peace before the busyness of life begins. Secondly, at the end of the day, the backyard patio is a perfect place to enjoy a glass a wine watching the sunset under the shaded oak trees.”

Husband’s point of view: The outdoor kitchen (aka man cave) area under the jasmine covered arbor is where you will find the men during football season.  This spot is perfect for entertaining, grilling out or fileting fish.  Because of the restrictive covenants, the boat storage area has been a perfect place to store our 17 ft boat and 14 ft sail boat without having to pay somewhere for storage.”

Jason:  What are your favorite grocery stores and shops in the area?

Seller:  “My favorite grocery stores are Piggly Wiggly and Publix which is 10 minutes from the house.  If I need something quick WalMart is only five minutes away too.  There is a local produce stand, McKenzine Farms, that is within 5 miles..they have the best tomatoes! Shops…O so many great shops!! Downtown Fairhope is the best hidden kept secret in the South. Any given day you can find exactly what you need without shopping the big box shopping malls.  If I feel the need to shop the big retail shops, Eastern Shore Mall in Malbis or Tanger Outlet store in Foley are within a 15 mile radius.”

Jason:  Any interests or hobbies you enjoy on or near the property?

Seller:  Water…did someone say water?? This home is located in the heart of water heaven! There are 3 boat launches within 5 miles that will lead you out into Fish River, Weeks Bay or Mobile Bay.   My family loves boating, fishing, sailing and the beach so being only 30 minutes away from some of the best fishing and most pristine beaches in the country is one of the features that sold us on this house. While hanging out at home, we love to sit on the front porch swings and watch the kids play.  With the house being positioned on a corner lot our yard is always the most favorable for a game of tag football or riding bikes.”

Jason:  Average utility costs in summer and winter?

Seller:  Baldwin County EMC:  $165-$270.

Fairhope Utilities: (gas & water)   $65-$160

ADT Security: $40.

Baldwin County Waste:  $65 quarterly.

POA: $75 quarterly

Jason:  What will you miss most about living in or owning this property, as well as the surrounding community?

Seller:  “Fairhope has been a wonderful community to live in over the past ten years.  Fairhope is truly a great place for retirees or raising a family, whether you like art or the water– there is something for all to enjoy.  This home has provided a perfect space for every stage of our life. It has not just been a house with walls, but a home that holds so many memories that we will cherish forever.  Our kids have grown up between these walls, pets have come and gone, walls have been painted but the memories will always remain. I just hope and pray the next family will love it as much as we have.”

Jason:  If you don’t mind me asking, why have you decided to sell your home?
Seller:  “As I mentioned before, my family loves the water and beach.  It has always been our dream to live near/on the water in Orange Beach. It is a bittersweet move because Fairhope is such a great community and we have created a wonderful life here but ultimately our veins bleed salt water and we love the “salt life.”
