Let the good times roll!
There is something magical about Mardi Gras in Fairhope, a city that has mastered the art of the festival. The anticipation is not related to anything raucous and disorderly, but rather in expectation of the familiar tradition of friends coming together to let our hair down. There is an air of excitement that spreads among all ages as fantastical floats are built for Knights of Ecor Rouge and creative costumes are designed for Maids of Jubilee. The sense of community is contagious as friends and neighbors meet to oooh and ahhh at the artistic achievement shared in the Order of Mystic Magnolias’ parade.

Sitting on shoulders to catch flying moonpies and beads is a milestone for the children of Fairhope that dates back to the youth of the now child-toting parents. Little ones have a natural tendency to collect and gather treasures so the bright, shiny Mardi Gras throws have an intrinsic value to the small hands that catch them. In addition to parades and balls, there is a heightened level of mirth during Mardi Gras as large plastic beads and green, yellow, and purple ribbons adorn welcoming doorways. There are many ways to join in the fun and even our pets take part in the Mystic Mutts of Revelry parade. This daytime parade represents our love for our furry citizens and raises money for the Haven, which is well known in this town for its important work caring for animals across our community.
