Dragonfly Food Bar Reviews: A Local’s Perspective
Let’s talk everyone’s favorite subject, food. Downtown Fairhope has a lot to offer when it comes to food. Everything from Lebanese cuisine to burgers and fries. Yet, I realized very quickly after moving to town that there would be one in particular that would nag the foodie in me on a near daily basis.
There are many interesting and different restaurants downtown as well, but my all time favorite is Dragonfly Foodbar.
When visitors ask me for my must do recommendation it is always this place. I moved here for the Atlanta area, so I’m no stranger to inventive food items but I have never had anything like Dragonfly. I would describe it as Asian fusion and they’re most notably known for Asian tacos.
They also have noodle and rice bowls, salads, starters, and burritos, but I’m here for the tacos. My personal favorites, because I can’t choose just one, are the 5 spice duck taco and the firecracker shrimp. The duck taco has juicy duck breast shredded severed on top on one of their many magic sauces, topped with sweet cranberries and sliced radish. Then that firecracker shrimp, whew. This taco is served with a spicy aioli, crispy fried shrimp drenched in their firecracker sauce topped with an Asian slaw and pickled cabbage.
Dragonfly also offers craft cocktails, beers, and always has daily specials that never disappoint. If you really want to eat Dragonfly like a local you have to go after 5 pm on Taco Tuesday (every Tuesday) for their $2 taco special. I will say it’s definitely more of an adult restaurant. It’s got a laid back atmosphere but there is really nothing on the menu for children that don’t appreciate spicy foods.
My kids are particularly picky so the fact that they can’t get chicken nuggets or french fries there means it’s definitely not somewhere I go for family dinner. However, if you have a culinarily adventurous kid they will probably love it! Jason Will’s kids, for example, love the wings and noodle bowls.
Planning a trip to Fairhope? Make sure sampling a Dragonfly taco or three is on your list of “things to do” while you’re in town.
