Alabama Gulf Coast Residential Wind Mitigation

Jason Will Real Estate was fortunate to have Nathan Lipincott, with Knockout Home Inspections, host a training at our office on the Strengthen Alabama Homes program (SAH).  The program, developed by Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS), allows residents of Mobile and Baldwin County, with existing, owner occupied, single family homes, to apply for wind mitigation grant funds.  The funds are to be strictly used for replacing roofs susceptible to damage to high velocity winds, with bronze standard fortified roofs. Bronze Fortified homes are eligible for substantial insurance discounts for homes located in areas with high costs for wind coverage, as well as the safety and security benefits of the peel and stick underlay roofing application.

Here is what you need to know per StrengthenAlabamaHomes.com before applying for the grant:

  • Grants will pay 100% of the cost of mitigation up to $10,000
  • There are no income based requirements
  • Work completed must meet the FORTIFIED™ Bronze or Silver standard
  • There are homeowner fees for the FORTIFIED™ Evaluation ($100 for the evaluation and $400 for the actual certification)
  • Only the 8 approved contractors can be hired to complete the work
  • The grant award amount will not be visible until all three bids are received
  • The process can take 3 to 6 months to complete
