Bellingrath Gardens Theodore Alabama

Bellingrath Gardens is one of Mobile, Alabama’s most popular tourist attractions.  Located about 20 miles southwest of the City of Mobile, this garden spans over 65 acres and is in bloom all year round with flowers and plants for every season. Even if you aren’t an avid gardener, you can’t help but appreciate the simplistic beauty of the colorful surrounding at Bellingrath. Even the wonderful commingling smell will engulf you and put you in a state of pure relaxation.

The garden was created by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bellingrath and was opened to the public for the first time 1932. The garden is set on the property of the Bellingrath’s very own home which you can tour as well as the gardens. The house is still decorated with all of the original furnishings and vast artwork picked out by Ms. Bellingrath herself. You can also go on a 45 minute cruise aboard the Southern Belle along the Fowl River.

The tour of the gardens is self-guided to allow you to create your own path through the many different layers of the garden. From the Asian-American Garden to the Great Lawn, there is something for every taste and desire. Open your senses in the Butterfly Gardens or soak up the scenery in the Bayou Boardwalk. Don’t forget to stop by and see the 2004 Top Public Rose Garden awarded by the All America Rose Selections. There is also a magnificent Christmas light display during the winter.
